About the Demo Talk
Demo Talk is a three-hour live pottery demonstration designed to give participants an intensive look into my approach to throwing, form, clay control, and decoration.
Throughout the session, I work continuously at the wheel while explaining not only what I am doing, but why I am doing it. I share the principles, techniques, and practical observations that shape my work, moving gradually from fundamental throwing skills toward more advanced methods.
The format allows participants to observe the process closely, ask questions, and gain insight into techniques that are normally explored in much greater depth during my multi-day intensive workshops.
It is an ideal format for people who would like to learn from my approach but may not have the opportunity to attend a full intensive.
Program
1. Fundamentals of Throwing
The demonstration begins with the essential principles that form the foundation of wheel throwing:
* centering
* opening the clay
* pulling and developing the walls
* understanding proportions and basic form development
* efficient use of movement, pressure, and body position
Rather than treating these only as beginner techniques, I show how strong fundamentals remain essential when moving toward larger and more complex forms.
2. Increasing Scale
As the demonstration progresses, I gradually increase the amount of clay and introduce the principles of working with larger weights.
Participants can observe how technique, body mechanics, timing, and clay management change as the scale increases.
3. Advanced Clay Control
I demonstrate more advanced methods of controlling and manipulating clay on the wheel, with particular attention to precision, stability, efficiency, and intentional form-making.
The focus is on understanding how the material behaves and how to maintain control while pushing it further.
4. Korean Technique
The session includes a demonstration of a Korean throwing technique that I use in my practice and teach during my longer intensive workshops.
I explain the logic behind the process, the sequence of movements, and how this approach can be applied to working with larger and more demanding forms.
5. Advanced Decorating Techniques
The final part of the demonstration explores advanced approaches to decorating and transforming thrown forms.
I demonstrate techniques that allow the surface and character of a piece to develop beyond the initial throwing process, while explaining how decoration can become an integral part of the form rather than simply an addition to it.
What Participants Can Expect
Over the course of three hours, participants will see a concentrated selection of demonstrations and techniques normally presented across my multi-day intensive workshops.
The emphasis is not simply on watching finished pieces being made. The goal is to make the process understandable: to explain the decisions, movements, technical challenges, and possibilities behind each stage.
Participants leave with new ideas, practical observations, and techniques that they can explore further in their own studio practice.
Demo Talk is an opportunity to watch, ask questions, understand the process, and experience a broad overview of my approach to working with clay — all within one focused three-hour session.
Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel their booking and receive a full refund up to two (2) weeks prior to the scheduled start of the workshop. Cancellations made less than two weeks before the start date are not eligible for a refund.
Workshops will be conducted in English.
We also invite you for a Two-Day Masterclass with Evgenii on Saturday and Sunday 21&22th of Nov. You can check the details here.
