KJ Harvest Glow Crystal Glaze 238ml
Ready-to-use crystalline glaze that creates spectacular, unique crystals on the surface of ceramics during a properly conducted firing.
Crystalline glazes are considered one of the more demanding ceramic glazing techniques. Achieving the desired results often requires many attempts, an appropriate recipe, and a precisely selected firing curve. KJ Tools & Glazes were created to simplify this process. They are ready to use and are applied in a similar way to standard glazes available on the market.
Key Features
- ready-to-use crystalline glaze,
- designed for brush application,
- creates unique crystals during controlled firing,
- can be fired in various types of kilns according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Application Method
Before use, the glaze should be thoroughly mixed. The manufacturer recommends applying the glaze in three layers:
- First layer: apply glaze to the entire glazed surface of the vessel.
- Second layer: start applying approximately 1/3 of the way up the vessel, from its base.
- Third layer: start applying approximately 2/3 of the way up the vessel, from its base.
Each subsequent brushstroke should overlap the previous one by about 50%. This helps to achieve an even layer of glaze.
Do not apply the glaze too thickly or too thinly. Too much glaze can hinder or completely inhibit crystal formation. Too thin a layer, on the other hand, can lead to poor background coverage and limit the final effect.
Caution – Glaze Runs Significantly
Crystalline glazes are very fluid during firing. Every piece must be fired on a properly prepared glaze catcher or stilts to protect the kiln shelf.
Do not place glazed work directly on the shelf. Running glaze can permanently adhere the work to the shelf and damage kiln equipment.
Firing Schedule in a Kiln with Controlled Cooling
- Heat to 1267°C.
- Cool to 1150°C and hold for 45 minutes.
- Cool to 1100°C and hold for 30 minutes.
- Cool to 1050°C and hold for 20 minutes.
- Cool to 1000°C and hold for 20 minutes.
- Cool to 960°C and hold for 20 minutes.
- After the program ends, allow the kiln to cool naturally.
Kilns without Controlled Cooling Function
After reaching 1267°C, allow the kiln to cool naturally to approximately 1150°C. Then, set minimal power and maintain the temperature for 45 minutes. Repeat the process for subsequent temperatures, according to the times specified in the firing schedule.
Manually Controlled Kilns
After reaching 1267°C, the manufacturer recommends allowing the kiln to cool naturally for about 30 minutes. Then, set low power and maintain a temperature of approximately 1150°C for 45 minutes. Between subsequent stages, allow the kiln to cool for about 30 minutes, then perform the next holds according to the schedule.

Important Information
The final appearance of the glaze, the size of the crystals, and their distribution may vary depending on the ceramic body used, layer thickness, the placement of the piece in the kiln, and the actual temperature profile.
Before applying the glaze to a finished piece, we recommend creating a sample on the chosen ceramic body. Each kiln and thermocouple may operate slightly differently, so the program may need to be adjusted to the conditions of a specific studio.
Product intended for professional ceramic applications. During work, observe safety rules applicable in the studio and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
