Information on work and firings

Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions about abandoned works and firings.

I want to bring my work for firing - what do I need to know?

First and foremost, we will ask about the origin of the clay and whether you know the firing temperature it is designed for. If you don't know what kind of clay it is, it's very likely that we will refuse to fire it. A similar situation applies to glazes, which, if the wrong temperature is chosen, can run onto the kiln shelf or damage other pieces. The cost of repairing a kiln shelf can be found in the "Firings" tab.

When will my work be ready?

Works are ready for collection two weeks after the workshop date, regardless of their type.

What does the acceptance of works look like?

We invite you to independently search for your finished works in the appropriate places in the studio. Our shelves are divided by firing type (bisque or glaze) and, in the case of bisque firings, we also arrange them by month. It is important to remember to sign your works or take a photo of them during workshops.

How much time do I have to pick up the works?

We store the works until the end of the month following the workshop. So, if the works were created at a workshop in September, they will be with us until the end of October. After this period, they become the property of the studio.

I can't find my job - what next?

Sometimes it may happen that someone collected works that were not theirs, but these are isolated exceptions. Usually, works can be found after more intensive searching. If a bisque-fired piece is missing, in 90% of cases it was destroyed in the kiln and cannot be collected.

What if my work was damaged during firing?

If the work was damaged due to our fault, as a result of improper placement of the works, contamination with whitewash, or impact, we offer a free firing of another piece of similar dimensions.

Do you create items to order?

To obtain a quote for a specific job, please send the technical specifications to studio@alike.pl. However, we must immediately point out that we are not a factory and do not undertake large orders.

Booking classes, absences, refunds.

Below you will find the most frequently asked questions about the classes

How to make an appointment for classes?

We only accept registrations for all classes through our online booking system at alike.pl. The date and price are listed under each class, and some also display a calendar where you can select specific class dates.

There are no more places available in my classes - what should I do?

You can sign up for the waiting list – just provide your email address and you will be informed when a spot becomes available. You can sign up for the list on the workshop page of our website.

Can I bring my child to classes?

Our workshops are aimed at adults with a minimum age of 16. We invite you to organized classes for teenagers aged 11-16, which can be found under the workshops tab on our website.

I want to postpone or cancel the workshop - how do I do it?

If you inform us by email or through the website chat up to 3 days before the start date of the classes, we will refund 100% of the amount paid. After this deadline, we release the spot, and if it can be filled, we issue a refund of 50% of the amount paid, regardless of the reasons for cancellation. If you wish to transfer your participation in the classes to a new date, this is possible if there are more than 3 days remaining until the workshop – similarly to the cancellation policy.

What are the payment methods for recurring classes?

The only way to sign up for recurring classes is through a subscription model, which means linking a payment card to our system. We do not offer cash or bank transfer payment options.

Organization and Course of Workshops

Here you will find answers about the course of the workshops

How to prepare for classes?

First and foremost, wear comfortable clothes and sports shoes, regardless of whether it's a pottery wheel class, glazing, or hand-building with clay – comfort is key. We also ask you not to wear your best clothes, as working with clay can get messy, even though we provide protective aprons. Clay is most visible on black clothing, though it cleans off quite easily.

We also kindly ask ladies to trim their nails – the longer they are, the less comfortable it will be to work with clay.

I have no experience with ceramics - are the classes suitable for me?

The classes are designed for both advanced and beginner students. Our instructors are experienced ceramicists or potters and will be able to easily assist those who have never worked with clay before, as well as provide their expertise to more advanced students.

What do you provide during classes?

We are responsible for providing all materials, tools, protective aprons, and necessary accessories needed to conduct the classes. Additionally, for most classes, we offer firing of works as described in the workshop. For participants, we also offer complimentary tea, coffee, and drinking water, and the venue, despite its numerous amenities, is equipped with two restrooms on level -1 (downstairs).

Can I request an individual appointment?

We are still working on the calendar and setting it based on the availability of rooms, equipment, and instructors. However, if you would like to come with a larger group, for groups of 4 people or more we can try to create an individual date according to the offer of team-building workshops available here: Ceramic Team-building Workshops

Can I come to class earlier?

You can check in 15 minutes before class. Please allow us time to prepare the room.
