Second-level Ceramics Course
The second-level course at AliKe Pottery Studio is five intensive days of creative work with clay – Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
This is a proposition for people who already know the basics of ceramics and want to develop their skills, learn new techniques and create more complex, original works.
During the course we will focus on both theory and practice.
The aim of the classes is to expand knowledge about ceramics, but also to gain confidence in experimenting and using various techniques and raw materials.
⸻
🔹 Day 1 – Turning on the potter's wheel
Refining the turning technique: controlling the shape, proportions and wall thickness.
Closed forms.
We will spend part of the day trimming/turning the work, using a variety of tools – from basic to professional, including those from Biroskop Tools.
Each participant will have a prepared, pre-dried roller waiting for them to work with.
🔹 Day 2 – Glazes and Colors
We will explore the process of mixing simple glazes – from the recipe to creating your own mixture.
We work with pigments and oxides, learning about their influence on the final effect and character of the glaze.
🔹 Day 3 – Decorating ceramics
We will learn decorative techniques such as Mishima, pastel and graphic forms.
We'll create our own underglaze decals – there will be plenty of soap bubbles! 🫧
🔹 Day 4 – Creating your own plaster mold
We will prepare a one-piece plaster mold.
We will learn proportions, the process of preparing plaster and the principles of safe and precise work with the mold.
🔹 Day 5 – Sculpture from sheets
At the end of the course, we will build a more complex shape from sheets of clay – a three-dimensional form that will allow us to gain experience in working with larger geometric shapes.
From abstraction to ceramic houses – the direction depends on the intentions and imagination of the participant.
⸻
🕓 Duration: 5 days (Monday–Friday), 10:00–15:00
🥗 The course price includes all materials, glazes, tools, firing of the works and a healthy lunch mid-day
📜 Each participant receives a course completion certificate
After completing the course, participants gain greater freedom in working with clay – they can independently plan, create and finish a ceramic form from concept to finished object.
