Witgert 30 SF Raku Molorak Clay – white stoneware clay for Raku

Witgert 30 SF Raku Molorak is a white, plastic stoneware clay developed for Raku firings. It contains 40% fine molochite with a grain size of 0–0.5 mm, which increases the resistance of products to sudden temperature changes. The light bisque body beautifully highlights Raku glazes, metallic effects, and crackle patterns.

• Drying shrinkage: approx. 5.8%
• Firing shrinkage: 0.6% at 1000°C; 2.3% at 1100°C; 3.4% at 1200°C; 3.5% at 1300°C
• Water absorption after firing: 13.5% at 1000°C; 11.0% at 1100°C; 8.2% at 1200°C; 5.8% at 1300°C

Recommended for bowls, dishes, decorative vessels, sculptures, and forms made using the Raku technique. Molochite has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, which can promote the formation of a finer and more compact glaze crackle pattern. Its high resistance to thermal shock makes it a safe choice even for those new to the Raku technique.

The provided parameters are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behaviour depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before making a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze.
