Witgert 29 SF Vintage Clay – marbled stoneware clay for building and modeling

Witgert 29 SF Vintage is a plastic, marbled stoneware clay made by combining white and grey clay. After firing, it creates an irregular, grey and white pattern, giving each piece a unique character even without extensive decoration.

Characteristics:

• Fired color: grey-white, marbled
• Application: hand-building, slab work, and sculpture
• Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg
• Firing temperature range: 1000–1300°C
• Grog content: 25% white grog, grain size 0–0.5 mm
• Drying shrinkage: approx. 5.0%
• Firing shrinkage: 0.6% at 1000°C; 3.1% at 1100°C; 4.7% at 1200°C; 5.7% at 1300°C
• Water absorption after firing: 16.8% at 1000°C; 12.1% at 1100°C; 5.6% at 1200°C; 2.5% at 1300°C

It works best for hand modeling, slab work, sculpture, decorative vessels, and forms where the natural pattern of the clay is to remain visible. Partial glazing, transparent glazes, or leaving fragments of raw bisque allow the Vintage effect to be well exposed. The marbled pattern makes each piece unique, which is a frequent selling point in artistic ceramics.

The parameters given are approximate. The final color, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before making a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the selected clay and glaze.
