Clay Witgert 28 SF 25% 0.5–2.0mm Red Stone 10kg
Witgert 28 Red Stone Clay – Coarse-Grained, Decorative Stoneware Clay
Witgert 28 Red Stone is a plastic, coarse-grained stoneware clay with a distinctly rustic character. It contains 25% black grog with a grain size of 0.5–2.0 mm. After firing, the body takes on shades from red, through dark red, to purplish-red, and the dark grains create a clear contrast on the surface.
Characteristics:
- Fired color: red, dark red to purplish-red
- Application: hand-building, slab work, and sculpture
- Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1250°C
- Grog content: 25% black grog, 0.5–2.0 mm grain
- Drying shrinkage: approx. 6.8%
- Firing shrinkage: 1.5% at 1000°C; 4.2% at 1100°C; 4.8% at 1200°C
- Water absorption after firing: 12.0% at 1000°C; 5.3% at 1100°C; 4.4% at 1200°C
Recommended for sculpture, pots, garden forms, decorative vessels, and hand-built works. The coarse grain can be consciously used as a design element – especially in raw, organic, and rustic creations. The distinct, coarse-grained texture combined with the red color gives works made from this clay a distinctly sculptural, rustic character.
The parameters provided are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before making a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze.
