Witgert 26 SF Indian Summer Clay – heavily grogged stoneware clay for hand-building

Witgert 26 SF Indian Summer is a plastic, heavily grogged stoneware clay with warm, variable coloring. After firing, it can take on pink, orange, and yellow hues, reminiscent of late summer colors. The 40% content of white grog (0–0.5 mm) ensures good stability when building forms.

• Firing temperature range: 1000–1350°C
• Grog content: 40% white grog, 0–0.5 mm grain
• Drying shrinkage: approx. 6.1%
• Firing shrinkage: 1.9% at 1000°C; 3.1% at 1100°C; 3.9% at 1200°C; 4.6% at 1300°C
• Water absorption after firing: 11.9% at 1000°C; 9.8% at 1100°C; 8.5% at 1200°C; 6.6% at 1300°C

Particularly recommended for medium sculptures, hand-built vessels, slab forms, planters, and decorative objects. The natural color of the clay presents well under transparent and semi-transparent glazes, as well as on unglazed surfaces. The natural variation in colors – from pink to yellow – means that each piece looks slightly different, which is a common distinguishing feature of handcrafted products.

The parameters provided are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, absorbency, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. We recommend a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze before producing a larger series.
