Witgert 14 SF Yellow – yellow, fine-grained stoneware clay

Witgert 14 SF Yellow is a plastic, slightly grogged stoneware clay that fires to a warm color. Depending on the firing temperature, it can take on a light yellow, yellow, or yellowish-gray hue. The fine white grog (0–0.2 mm) supports the structure without hindering its suitability for throwing.

Characteristics:

• Application: throwing and hand-building
• Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg
• Firing temperature range: 1000–1250°C
• Grog content: 25% white grog, 0–0.2 mm grain
• Drying shrinkage: approx. 8.2%
• Firing shrinkage: 1.9% at 1000°C; 4.0% at 1100°C; 4.9% at 1200°C
• Water absorption after firing: 10.2% at 1000°C; 6.8% at 1100°C; 3.3% at 1200°C

Good for utilitarian and decorative ware, mugs, bowls, vases, pots, and small sculptures. The yellow body yields interesting results under transparent and semi-transparent glazes, as well as in combination with engobes and decoration that leaves parts of the clay visible. This is one of the few stoneware clays with such a distinct, warm yellow body color, which allows for the creation of characteristic, easily recognizable product series.

The parameters provided are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before producing a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the selected clay and glaze.
