Witgert 116 SF Anthraz Clay – grey/anthracite, fine-grained stoneware clay

Witgert 116 SF Anthraz is a plastic, fine-grained stoneware clay that fires to an elegant grey or anthracite color. It contains 25% grog (0–0.2 mm), which gives it good stability and a surface suitable for both throwing and hand-building.

• Drying shrinkage: approx. 5.6%
• Firing shrinkage: 1.4% at 1000°C; 3.6% at 1100°C; 5.0% at 1200°C; 5.6% at 1300°C
• Water absorption after firing: 11.4% at 1000°C; 7.2% at 1100°C; 3.3% at 1200°C; 1.1% at 1300°C

Recommended for functional ware, mugs, bowls, plates, vases, and modern decorative forms. The darker body interacts interestingly with light, white, and effect glazes, and with transparent glazes, it can significantly influence the final color of the decoration. The modern, anthracite shade fits well with the minimalist, industrial aesthetic currently popular in functional and interior ceramics.

The parameters provided are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before making a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the selected clay and glaze.
