Witgert Clay 08 12.5% (0.5-2mm) Cork 10kg
Witgert 08 Cork Clay – Coarse-Grained, Decorative Stoneware Clay
Witgert 08 Cork is a plastic, decorative stoneware clay with approximately 12.5% coarse black grog, particle size 0.5–2.0 mm. After firing, it creates a warm, reddish, speckled body resembling the structure of cork. The dark grains are highly visible and give each piece a natural, unique look.
Characteristics:
- Color after firing: warm reddish, speckled – cork effect
- Application: throwing and hand-building
- Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1250°C
- Grog content: approximately 12.5% black grog, grain 0.5–2.0 mm
- Drying shrinkage: approximately 4.9%
- Firing shrinkage: 1.2% at 1000°C; 3.8% at 1100°C; 4.9% at 1200°C
- Water absorption after firing: 12.5% at 1000°C; 6.1% at 1100°C; 3.2% at 1200°C
Recommended for pots, bowls, vases, sculptures, garden forms, and objects with an organic character. The most interesting effect is achieved by leaving part of the surface unglazed or by using transparent and semi-transparent glazes that do not obscure the speckled texture. The cork effect is often deliberately used as the main decorative element of vessels, without the need for additional decoration or glazing of the entire surface.
The parameters provided are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before producing a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze.
