Sibelco Nigra 2002 Clay 10kg
Sibelco Nigra 2002 Clay – Black, Finely Grogged Stoneware Clay Body
Sibelco Nigra 2002 is a black stoneware clay body with very fine, black grog. After firing, it creates a deep, dark body that contrasts effectively with light, transparent, and reactive glazes. The fine grain allows for a relatively smooth surface while improving the stability of the clay during work.
Characteristics:
- Fired color: black
- Application: hand-building, slab work, and sculpture
- Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1240°C
- Grog content: 20% black grog, grain size 0–0.2 mm
- Drying shrinkage: approx. 5.5%
- Firing shrinkage: approx. 7.5% at 1200°C
- Water absorption after firing: approx. 3.0% at 1200°C
It is suitable for cups, bowls, vases, decorative plates, sculptures, and slab forms. The dark body can significantly alter the appearance of glazes, so it is advisable to test samples, especially with light and transparent glazes, before glazing an entire series. The intense blackness of the body is increasingly used in modern, minimalist tableware and decorative ceramics, where it contrasts with light or metallic glazes.
The parameters provided are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, absorbency, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before producing a larger series, we recommend conducting a technological test with the chosen clay body and glaze.
