Goerg & Schneider 933 Clay – fine grog, speckled stoneware body

Goerg & Schneider 933 is a finely grogged stoneware body with a warm, leather-like color and natural speckling. Its surface remains relatively smooth, making it suitable for throwing, while having a distinctly more organic character than classic light bodies.

Characteristics:

• Fired color: leather-like, speckled
• Application: throwing and hand-building
• Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg
• Firing temperature range: 1000–1240°C
• Grog content: 20% grog, grain size 0–0.2 mm
• Drying shrinkage: approx. 8%
• Firing shrinkage: 4% at 1070°C; 6% at 1140°C; 7% at 1240°C
• Water absorption after firing: 9% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 0.5% at 1240°C

It will work well for cups, bowls, plates, vases, and slab-built forms. Transparent glazes emphasize the speckling, while matte and reactive glazes can create interesting transitions on the warm body. The warm, leather-like shade combined with the speckling makes vessels made from this body blend well with natural, earthy interiors.

The parameters provided are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before producing a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the chosen clay body and glaze.
