Clay Goerg & Schneider 931 10kg
Goerg & Schneider 931 Clay – light, speckled stoneware body
Goerg & Schneider 931 is a light cream, speckled stoneware body with slightly coarser basalt flecks than the 930 variant. It contains 25% fine grog (0–0.2 mm), which combines the plasticity needed for throwing with stability for hand-building forms.
Characteristics:
- Fired color: white to light cream with flecks
- Application: throwing and hand-building
- Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1280°C
- Grog content: 25% grog, grain 0–0.2 mm, slightly coarser basalt flecks
- Drying shrinkage: approx. 6%
- Firing shrinkage: 3% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 7% at 1240°C
- Water absorption after firing: 9% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 1% at 1240°C
Recommended for mugs, bowls, plates, vases, and hand-built forms. The speckling can remain visible through transparent glazes, and raw body fragments give the work a natural, mineral character. The more pronounced basalt flecks than in the 930 variant allow for a stronger natural speckled effect while maintaining the same light base color.
The parameters provided are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, absorbency, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before making a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the selected body and glaze.
