Clay Goerg & Schneider 8251 10kg
Goerg & Schneider 8251 Clay – Spotted Modelling Stoneware Clay
Goerg & Schneider 8251 is an impressive stoneware clay with a variable colour ranging from pinkish and cork to greenish-grey, enriched with natural basalt specks. It contains 15% grog (0–0.5 mm), which ensures good plasticity and makes it suitable for building small and medium forms.
Characteristics:
- Fired colour: pink, cork to greenish-grey with specks
- Application: hand-building, slab work, and sculpting
- Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg bags
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1200°C
- Grog content: 15% grog, grain size 0–0.5 mm, with basalt specks
- Drying shrinkage: approx. 8%
- Firing shrinkage: 4% at 1070°C; 6% at 1140°C; 7% at 1200°C
- Water absorption after firing: 8% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 1% at 1200°C
Recommended for bowls, vases, planters, sculptures, lamps, and slab-built objects. The manufacturer primarily classifies it as a modelling clay; its unique colour and speckles are best showcased by leaving part of the surface unglazed or by using transparent glazes. The natural variability in colour ensures that no two pieces are identical, which can be a strong selling point for handmade crafts.
The parameters provided are indicative. The final colour, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behaviour depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before producing a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze.
