Clay Goerg & Schneider 480 10kg
Goerg & Schneider 480 Clay – light, heavily grogged sculpting clay
Goerg & Schneider 480 is a light, very heavily grogged clay for sculpture and large forms. It contains 40% grog with a wide grain size of 0–2.0 mm, which provides strong structural support and a distinct, raw texture. After firing, it achieves a color from white to light cream.
Characteristics:
- Color after firing: white to light cream
- Application: throwing and hand-building
- Form: plastic clay, packaged in 10 kg
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1260°C
- Grog content: 40% grog, grain size 0–2.0 mm
- Shrinkage during drying: approx. 4%
- Shrinkage during firing: 2% at 1070°C; 3% at 1140°C; 4% at 1240°C
- Water absorption after firing: 10% at 1070°C; 7% at 1140°C; 4% at 1240°C
It is best suited for large sculptures, garden forms, planters, architectural elements, and objects built from thick slabs or coils. It is not intended for thin-walled ceramics or delicate throwing. This is a typical "workshop" clay for sculptors working on a large scale, where resistance to stress during drying and transport is more important than a smooth finish.
The parameters provided are indicative. The final color, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before making a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze.
