Clay Goerg & Schneider 374 10kg
Goerg & Schneider 374 Clay – Black Stoneware Clay for Modelling
Goerg & Schneider 374 is an intensely dark stoneware clay described by the manufacturer as "black in black". It contains 25% chamotte 0–0.5 mm, which provides good stability and a subtle texture without dominating the deep color of the fired body.
Characteristics:
- Fired color: black
- Application: hand-building, slab work, and sculpture
- Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1200°C
- Chamotte content: 25% chamotte, grain size 0–0.5 mm
- Drying shrinkage: approx. 7%
- Firing shrinkage: 3% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 6% at 1200°C
- Water absorption after firing: 8% at 1070°C; 4% at 1140°C; 0.3% at 1200°C
Recommended for sculpture, pots, vases, lamps, and decorative slab forms. The dark body yields striking results with white, turquoise, metallic, and transparent glazes, but it may alter their color, so testing is advisable. The deep, uniform black of the fired body is particularly impressive when combined with glossy, metallic, or contrastingly white glazes.
The given parameters are approximate. The final color, shrinkage, absorbency, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before making a larger series, we recommend conducting a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze.
