Clay Goerg & Schneider 373 10kg
Goerg & Schneider 373 Clay – Grey-black stoneware modelling clay
Goerg & Schneider 373 is a grey-black stoneware clay with 30% grog (0–0.5 mm). The increased grog content facilitates the creation of stable forms and gives the surface a natural, slightly grainy texture. This clay is primarily intended for modelling.
Characteristics:
- Fired colour: grey-black
- Application: hand-building, slab work, and sculpting
- Form: plastic clay, packaged in 10 kg bags
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1240°C
- Grog content: 30% grog, grain size 0–0.5 mm
- Drying shrinkage: approx. 6%
- Firing shrinkage: 3% at 1070°C; 4% at 1140°C; 6% at 1240°C
- Water absorption after firing: 9% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 1% at 1240°C
It is suitable for sculptures, lamps, pots, reliefs, and objects with thicker walls. The dark bisque should be partially exposed to highlight the contrast between the clay and the glaze. It works particularly well for pieces with thicker walls where structural stability is paramount, rather than precise surface finishing.
The parameters provided are for guidance only. The final colour, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behaviour depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before producing a larger series, we recommend conducting a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze.
