Clay Goerg & Schneider 371 10kg
Goerg & Schneider 371 Clay – dark, finely grogged stoneware body
Goerg & Schneider 371 is a finely grogged, grey-black stoneware body suitable for both throwing and modelling. It contains 25% grog (0–0.2 mm), which gives a stable body without a heavily textured surface. It achieves very low water absorption at high firing temperatures.
Characteristics:
- Fired colour: grey-black
- Application: throwing and hand-building
- Form: plastic clay, 10 kg packs
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1240°C
- Grog content: 25% grog, grain size 0–0.2 mm
- Drying shrinkage: approx. 7%
- Firing shrinkage: 3% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 8% at 1240°C
- Water absorption after firing: 9% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 0.1% at 1240°C
Recommended for mugs, bowls, vases, decorative plates, slab forms, and sculptures. Due to its fine grain, it is more comfortable to throw on the wheel than typical dark sculpting clays. It is a practical choice when a dark, modern body colour is desired without sacrificing throwing comfort on the wheel.
The parameters provided are indicative. The final colour, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behaviour depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before making a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the chosen body and glaze.
