Goerg & Schneider 359 Clay – salmon-colored, fine grog modeling clay

Goerg & Schneider 359 is a salmon-colored stoneware clay with 25% fine grog 0–0.2 mm. The warm, delicate color of the fired body distinguishes it from classic red and beige clays, and the fine grain allows for a relatively smooth surface.

Characteristics:

• Application: hand-building, slab work, and sculpture
• Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg bags
• Firing temperature range: 1000–1220°C
• Grog content: 25% grog, grain size 0–0.2 mm
• Drying shrinkage: approx. 6%
• Firing shrinkage: 3% at 1070°C; 6% at 1140°C; 6% at 1200°C
• Water absorption after firing: 9% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 2% at 1200°C

Recommended for decorative vessels, vases, pots, sculptures, and slab forms. The warm color works well with transparent, white, cream, and turquoise glazes. The unusual, salmon hue of the fired body sets pieces made from this clay apart from more classic white and red stonewares.

The parameters provided are approximate. The final color, shrinkage, water absorption, and glaze behavior depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before producing a larger series, we recommend conducting a technological test with the chosen clay and glaze.
