Clay Goerg & Schneider 258 10kg
Goerg & Schneider 258 Clay – light, contrast-speckled stoneware body
Goerg & Schneider 258 is a striking light stoneware body with dark grog, described by the manufacturer as "black in white". It contains 25% grog 0–0.5 mm. After firing, the black specks contrast sharply with the light body, creating a natural, graphic surface pattern.
Characteristics:
- Fired colour: light with black grog
- Application: hand-building, slab work and sculpture
- Form: plastic clay, packed in 10 kg
- Firing temperature range: 1000–1240°C
- Grog content: 25% grog, 0–0.5 mm grain size, black grog
- Drying shrinkage: approximately 5%
- Firing shrinkage: 4% at 1070°C; 5% at 1140°C; 6% at 1240°C
- Water absorption after firing: 7% at 1070°C; 4% at 1140°C; 0.2% at 1240°C
Recommended for vases, planters, sculptures, lamps, and slab-built objects. Transparent glazes allow the black grog to remain visible, while partial glazing enhances the material's contrast. The "black in white" effect allows for interesting, graphic surfaces without the need for manual decoration, which is appreciated by creators of minimalist decorative ceramics.
The given parameters are approximate. The final colour, shrinkage, absorbency, and glaze behaviour depend on the kiln, atmosphere, soaking time, and firing curve. Before producing a larger series, we recommend a technological test with the chosen body and glaze.
